This ice skate/stiletto boot Designed by Kate Moss and brought to life by DSquared made its maiden voyage this week down the fall/winter runway. Leaving models walking squirrely perched atop this shoes bizzare spur-like spike on the metal heel. The bottom "skates" are covered with rubber we hope to give some sense of grip. Over all the design is something to be talked about but in function I cant see how a walk from any farther than car to door would be at all possible.

Last Thursdays show at Loft 1513 in Noe Valley was an event not soon to be forgotten. From the cheese plates to the musical selections and the festive bar tended by the beautiful and talented Kira Buck and El Amigo bar.

The tiny Noe Valley independent boutique was packed with revelers as the models displayed Invisible Hero's latest collection two at a time in the front display window. There was shopping and intrigue as the show continued,customers got to mingle with the collection on the floor before the lovely models made their way back to the dressing room.

Terra Form Fashion Show at Temple SF

The Terraform art music and fashion showcase at Temple Nightclub in SF, was surely an event not to be missed. In between live art, amazing beats there were rock vendors free sushi snacks, and haute photo shoots going on all over the place. Somewhere around 11pm there was a runway fashion show featuring Magdelina May Trevor, Ms. Velvet Cream, and yours truly Invisible Hero.

Last Friday August 6th kicked off a busy weekend, at the Invisible Hero headquarters. The Zivity Strip Tease Auction Hosted by the RF80 Gallery deep in the SOMA district, and the girls of Zivity.com kicked off the weekend and the stage was set for a one of a kind charity/fashion event of the summer. Featuring the designs of Danielle Pettee, Kristy Capelli, Magdelina May, Nocus, Sugar Puss, and Invisible Hero with each designer donating one peice from the show to a charity of their choice. The twist on this timeless tale is the charity piece was to be stripped off the models ever so seductively on the runway to the highest bidder. As you can imagine the night was filled with skin and grins.

The art of Merkley was featured in the gallery, and there were sumptuious orderves and drinks for sampling floating through the crowd. The night was highlighted with a performance from a duo of contortionists and acrobats. Who knew a charity event could be so amazing!
Big thanks to Danielle Cohen of Missing Piece for putting this amazing event together.

Project Create SF: Invisible Hero and some friends recently sat down and started brainstorming new collective idea. A new hub space in San Francisco for emerging artist,promoters and designers began to formulate. Project India: Invisible Hero Supporting Womens Equality in India
This month was a very special month for us at I.H. our first month of garment production with a project based in India. Helping support women in India by providing work and fair wages for garment production locally in India. This has been a dream of mine for some time, it has been an amazing opportunity to work with Saroj recently to put this all together. Spawned from a coffee shop in the mission our goal of finding women in India to reproduce our garments while providing a lasting relationship and work opportunity for women located in rural india has become a reality!!! The pieces were sent and are in the works!!! I cant wait to see the final product.

If Thursday is the new Friday, then Harlot has got you covered. With its new mid-week monthly, Night Vision-- the third Thursday of every month--Harlot promises heavy house with enough audio-visual stimulation to keep even the most pampered partiers well entertained.

This month’s Night Vision treated attendees to a fashion show by two of San Francisco’s freshest and eco-friendliest designers, Charlie Fischer of Invisible Hero Industries and Amy M. Ho. As a platoon of diverse models took to the catwalk, sporting grass-covered welding masks and fur trooper hats, a theme of the inventive opportunities of re-use fashion came to mind. “I would like to see eco-fashion be more fashionable,” said Invisible Hero Industries’ Charlie Fischer, following a parade of her newest collection which included re-used leather, silk, cotton, and synthetics cut to create thigh-high evening slips and cropped denim-look onesies with larger-than-life bows.

Both Fischer and Ho represent a movement that is growing in the fashion world on at least a local level with rapid celebrity: sustainable fashion design with roots outside the fashion industry. In many cases, this equates to designers who are self-taught or academically trained in a related field (including fields as varied as textile design, fine art, and theatre design). This sort of diversity allows designers to think outside of the constraints and assumptions of the fashion industry, resulting in innovative designs and factory-free construction, produced and promoted on a local level. In the case of Fischer and Ho, the concept is obviously working.

Charlie Fischer’s introduction to the world of fashion began when she was only four years old. Sewing lessons from mom led to an interest in fashion design with roots in construction. This attention to manufacture would later blossom into Invisible Hero Industries, an independent label with an emphasis on sustainability. Fischer’s work resists the repetition of prints and cuts seen in traditional ready to wear collections. Instead, designs are based on the fabrics themselves, allowing Fischer to create a selection of one-of-a-kind, detail-oriented articles as creative as they are diverse. Select articles are available in stores throughout San Francisco including Artillery Gallery, Loft 1513, Tribus Vivas, and Trunk in the Haight.

Amy M. Ho’s work also represents an inventive, if not outrageous, break with the fashion industry. Ho’s background is academic, but also unorthodox when speaking of the traditional industry-based education most designers are expected to have. With an MFA focused in Installation Art from Mills College on the horizon, and designers Do Ho Suh and Yayoi Kusama operating as her inspiration, Ho says she is less concerned about making ready to wear items and more interested in exploring the possibilities of three-dimensional, wearable shapes. The result is Ho’s second collection, a complicated and intriguing landscape of re-used satin, cotton, and velveteen fabrics twisted, warped, and wired to form dresses with bouncy, upturned, star-shaped hems, whirling tentacles, and clusters of multi-colored, protruding cones. The collection is as worthy of a museum as it is a cat walk and speaks to the imaginative possibilities of art-based fashion while still averting the economic concerns facing couture.

Harlot’s newest monthly addition is the vision of San Francisco party kid turned organizer Nick Santoro of NS Presents. Santoro, a veteran of SF’s music and art scenes, got his first taste of the complicated world of party promotion when he was offered to curate shows at SF State. He wanted to continue to independently produce parties that merged the world of music and art and soon generated a certain amount of underground renown through parties held at his loft in the Inner Richmond. It wasn’t long before bigger, more legit venues were knocking at his door. As both a DJ and organizer, Santoro is as much a part of the music scene as a promoter, having held residencies at Mezzanine, Mighty, Vessel, and the Rickshaw Stop. With Night Vision, Santoro hopes to keep the intersection of San Francisco’s art and music scenes well at large by incorporating fashion designers, dancers, and visual artists to create a welcoming party atmosphere that offers something for everyone.

It’s no surprise that an aesthetically-driven night like Night Vision should find its home at Harlot, a club where dedication to details is what gives the space its special edge. A modest dance floor glowing rouge under a luminescent backdrop and ample seating equip with cowhide regency couches and snake-skin booths, seamlessly accommodate both relaxation and recklessness. Large-scale reproductions of classical paintings framed by heavy velveteen drapery in devilish shades of red and black create a steamy but chic bordello atmosphere while reappropriated wine bottle light fixtures, entwined antler chandeliers, and twisting tree limbs scouring the walls give the room a surprisingly organic feel. For those daring to venture out solo, a smoking cage overlooking the Minna St. alley makes an excellent spot to mingle with your fellow addicts.

Hand Made Ho Down First ever Urban Craft Shopping Event this THURSDAY!!!

If the thought of holiday shopping makes you want to gulp down a big drink or forsake the mall forever (or both), we've got the event for you. Etsy, the web's marketplace for everything handmade, is coming to SF for their first ever Bay Area Handmade Ho Down. Over 55 handmade and vintage vendors will be on there to help you check off that holiday gift list in record time. But what separates this from all the other holiday craft fairs that are a dime a dozen this time of year? Well, to start with, there's booze. Yup, this ain't your mama's craft fair... unless she prefers a stiff drink with her needlework, in which case, bring her along!

The affair is for the 21 and over set, and takes place after dark for one night only (Thursday, December 3rd from 6PM to 12AM) at Ten15 on Folsom. In case this sounds just a tad too self-indulgent for a school night, we're happy to report that the event is raising money for DrawBridge, a Bay Area arts program for homeless children. You can bring donations of art supplies to the Ho Down for a free gift at the door, or take part in the evening raffle to benefit the organization. While keeping a busy performance schedule both in So-Cal and around the Country, the one they call Whizard has also put in some serious studio time as of late, knocking out some serious dance floor pressure in both Drum n Bass & Dubstep.

For the past several years, alongside the legendary Audio Angel, Ax!oM MC has been performing with the live act Beatropolis. Friday was the much anticipated F**ck the Recession Art and Fashion Event, at Space Gallery. Hosted by Del and Owen of the San Francisco Fashion Awards featuring Featuring... Artists from Owen Geronimo's WERKSTATTE Collective, including live painting by IAN ROSS,and exhibits by JOHN BENKO, SEAN WARD, MAX EHRMAN, CARLOS MICHAEL FINN, CARLY IVAN GARCIA & REBECCA PETERS and of course the Indie Fashion Punk Runway show put on by myself. Invisible Hero looked awseome on the runway/gallery floor and some of my favorite photographers where there to capture it.
